Ingredients

Apples:

  • 2 cups thinly sliced

Pears:

  • 2 cups thinly sliced

Brown Sugar:

  • ½ cup

Granulated Sugar:

  • ¼ cup

Cinnamon:

  • 1 teaspoon

Nutmeg:

  • ½ teaspoon

Vanilla Extract:

  • 1 teaspoon

Cornstarch:

  • 1 tablespoon

Lemon Juice:

  • 1 tablespoon

Butter:

  • 2 tablespoons cubed

Pie Dough:

  • 2 rounds store-bought or homemade

Egg Wash:

  • 1 egg yolk + 1 tablespoon milk

Coarse Sugar:

  • 1 tablespoon

Instructions

Prepare the filling:

  • In a large bowl, mix the apples and pears with brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Let sit for 10 minutes.

Roll out the crust:

  • On a floured surface, roll out the pie dough to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Gently press the dough into the pan and trim any excess.

Assemble the pie:

  • Pour the fruit filling into the crust, dot with butter, and cover with the second pie crust. Seal and crimp the edges.

Apply the egg wash:

  • Brush the top crust with the egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar for extra texture.

Bake:

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the pie on a baking tray and bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.

Cool & Serve:

  • Let the pie cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before slicing. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
